Crystal Growth systematically presents all the fundamental aspects of this subject. It provides a mainly physical, general background of all fundamental proceses currently used in growing single crystals and thin films in industry and research laboratories dealing with semiconductors, oxides (used as lasers, constructive materials, data storage, etc.), non-linear optical dielectrics or metals. The first edition (Springer Series in Solid-State Sciences, Vol 36, 1984) is widely used as both a texbook for teching materials science courses and as a handbook by researchers. The book includes many illustrations and is written for a reader not previously involved in the subject, but with a knowledge of the basics of university courses of general physics and chemistry. No complicated mathematics is used. Instead, the focus is placed on numerical estimates based on an understanding of the core phenomena.
