Fluency, or spontaneity, does not happen suddenly. Ironically, spontaneity can be achieved by rehearsing! By studying and understanding what happens in a conversation and consciously applying what is learned in a deliberate way, you give your mind what it needs to react spontaneously! A singer or musician studies and practices scales and arpeggios, not in order to be able to sing or play them on stage, but so that the mind, vocal chords, fingers, etc., get a feel for music and how it flows. Once developed, this feel shows itself in the ability to improvise new music on the fly as it were, creating spontaneously but able to do so because of a great deal of preparation. The greatest jazz musicians are also among the most knowledgeable about classical music, because they are so familiar with the way music "works" that they can be spontaneous. It is a paradox that in order to be spontaneous, you have to practice - a lot! Using this method, you can become spontaneous - that is - fluent!
