This practical book aims to show some of the ways in which written letters can enrich the graphic arts. It will be of particular interest to designers, art directors, students and calligraphers wishing to work in print. Starting with typographic letters familiar to designers, the author uses the pen to reconstruct and develop them creatively, then describes a variety of techniques including re-touching, paste-up, stencilling, the use of resists and masks, photocopiers and unconventional tools and writing surfaces. Many examples of calligraphy-derived designs are shown, together with experimental pen and brush scripts. Michael Harvey is the author of "Lettering Design", "Creative Lettering - Drawing and Design" and "Carving Letters in Stone and Wood".
