Each volume in this series of poetry anthologies contains poems selected to explore a different theme through verse and includes brief biographies of the poets. This anthology celebrates the variety and character of animals of all shapes and sizes, from an old cat that lives in a cellar and a boy watching his hamster in its cage, to a saw-mouthed alligator and the monstrous charge of a thick-skinned buffalo. Drawing on verse from around the world, this selection includes some well-known poems, some new and some by children themselves. Each poem is illustrated by a line drawing and is accompanied by a colour photograph. The series is intended to be of use to teachers of creative writing and for use in cross-curricular activities.
