This book examines all NT references to demons and argues that Jesus and the disciples opposed the common beliefs of their day about demons. The book first sets out the background views about demons from available first century writings. It then argues that in each of Jesus' set-piece demon miracles the Gospel writers present a symbology in which the demon-possessed represent Israel under foreign domination. It is then shown how Jesus opposed a belief in demons through his parables that involve demons. Finally, the book argues that God is the author of good and evil and not the Devil and his demons.
