The Cambridge Glass Company (1901-1954) was one of the leading manufacturers of American elegant glass. Along with Heisey and Fostoria, Cambridge glassware is a popular collectible today. Like these other companies, Cambridge Glass produced promotional booklets to attract customers to their wares. "The Art of Making Fine Glassware" was published in 1939 and was kept in print until the company closed its doors. Along with a short history of the company and glassware in general, this booklet, unlike others, goes into details about the production of hand-made glassware and includes sections on the materials used in glass production, how colors are produced, blowing and pressing, etching, cutting and other forms of decorating. How to identify fine glassware, care for it and correctly use it on the table is also addressed in this informative booklet.
