The Lone City series may be the last of the traditional young adult series with instant love, a revolution and fighting against an oppressive regime... And I loved every moment. It's almost a guilty pleasure much in the same way readers enjoyed The Selection, and The White Rose is a fantastic installment in the series. Once again we follow the storyline of Violet on her journey as Surrogate for the Duchess of The Lake, for her Augury ability and her unusual eye colour. She's been separated from her best friend in Raven, who is being tortured for the sake of science and barely coherent. It isn't until Violet and the royal consort in Ash are caught in each others embrace, when they realise how dangerous the situation has become. To survive, they must escape and along with a disillusioned Raven, their only source of safety may be the illusive Farm.
Over the course of The White Rose, the focus moves away from the romance of book one with the storyline following the revelations of The Jewel and Violet, Ash and Raven's escape from the clutches of the royals. The instant love has been replaced with a much more comfortable companionship, as Violet's main focus is to reach the Farm and ensure Raven's safety. I really enjoyed Violet's character so much more in this installment. She didn't hesitate to take charge, putting the lives of both Raven and Ash before her own. By far my favourite character is Garnet. His character undergoes the most development and readers will feel a sense of who he is beyond the wild reputation for partying and bedding women. We see what may be the beginning of a tentative friendship or relationship between two unlikely characters which I hope is explored further.
Although I did really enjoy The White Rose, I don't think an entire book dedicated to their escape to the Farm was necessary. If not for leaving readers on tenterhooks once again and exploring the Augury abilities, this series probably could have been shortened into a duology. Nevertheless, The White Rose sets the scene for an incredible finale, engaging characters, a reliable storyline and what could be the last of the traditional young adult dystopian series.

I loved the first book in ways I cannot quite describe. It was unputdownable. And not that this one was bad, I just was more able to put it down. Maybe it was some middle book syndrome, I don't know. There were parts of it that were enjoyable for sure: getting to know some of the characters much better, getting a little more insight into the world, and some of the adventures that shall not be mentioned for spoilery reasons. So while it wasn't a five star, it was good. And definitely left me excited for the last book!

Talk about disappointments. What is happening in this series? Every event falls into one of three categories:
1) I completely saw that coming, how predictable...
2) Holy shit, where are you making up this stuff from??
3) I can't even react because I literally can't follow the plot right now.
That's it, the entire book can be separated into three categories. The weird magic, the sister, the voyage to the wise old woman who can teach you special powers, etc....everything was nuts. I miss the first book. I miss that interesting world. I don't really care anything about the White Rose or this dumb revolution. I have so many more important, more interesting questions that need answering.

This second installment in The Lone City series caught me by surprise. I loved The Jewel but this? Mind blown! It was fast-paced and really left me wanting more! I need the third book ASAP!
The White Rose picks up right where The Jewel ended and it continues by Violet, Raven and Ash escaping thanks to Lucien and Garnet. It is not an easy task and they encounter lots of obstacles during the way until they finally reach The White Rose where Violet discovers truths about herself, the surrogates and her powers.
This sequel is much more thorough and goes in deep when talking about each character. The reader gets to learn a whole lot more of what is happening and what this universe is about. Each character is unique and bring their own spark to the story, such as Raven. She has to be my favorite character of this second installment. It is safe to say she has gone through SO MUCH and in this story, we can tell because she is close to losing her mind. I felt so bad for her but she surprised me by wanting to get better, wanting to fight and trying her hardest to help Violet win this revolution.
I have to admit I am not a big fan of Violet and Ash’s relationship. I don’t feel any romance there nor spark nor excitement. It’s so bland and just eh. I do love this new relationship that’s blooming and I ship them! Raven and Garnet!!! I definitely did not see this coming but I am so excited for them and can’t wait for the third book to read about them together!
What took me by complete surprise were the Auguries and their true powers. I couldn’t believe this. I mean, I figured their purpose was greater and it was being kept inside and not set free but WOW! Mind blown! I literally gasped out loud when Violet tuned into the powers, thanks to Sil, a new character who plays a big role. I loved The Jewel for its uniqueness but The White Rose brought unique to a whole other level.
I feel that the story went by extremely fast! I really needed more. I saw I was at 95% and a bunch of things weren’t resolved and gahhhh! But the reading experience was definitely a success. I loved every bit of the story (except for the relationship I mentioned above). The new characters made things even more exciting and intriguing.
It was very hard for me to put this book down. I would fall asleep while reading this book in the wee hours of the night, only to wake up and grab my iPad to continue reading. Amy Ewing does a terrific job with the sequel and I cannot wait to see what she will bring in the third book.

I do have to say if you not read the novella that tells more of raven back story you really should before you dive into white rose i feel it really makes you undestand why the events that happen go down they way they do. My heart really hurt for raven more after reading the novella.
All in all i love that this one showed us more about how and why this city is so split up and why so many parts of it are dependent on these so called royals. Great story, a really different kind of story then what i expected.
