Season for Temptation was quite disappointing. The first two thirds are really boring and there's a distinct lack of holiday anything. James is engaged to Louisa and has come to her family home to set a date and discuss other details with her father. He's met with Louisa's younger stepsister, Julia, and is immediately taken with her. But he's set on marrying Louisa and must put her sister out of his mind. Easier said than done when Louisa insists on Julia coming to London with them.

One would think that books in a series entitled Holiday Pleasures would primarily take place over the holidays. Well, Season for Temptation does not. Things happen, then there's a time jump to Christmas which takes up all of five pages, then suddenly it's February! At least something important could have happened between Julia and James during Christmas at his family home, but it doesn't! This makes no sense to me!

Aside from not being very Christmasy, Season for Temptation is really awkward and boring at first. The first several chapters felt like they were all dialogue which was odd. We rarely get into the characters' heads to know what they're thinking, just everything that they're saying. Then James repeated laments about having to marry Louisa, and Louisa is super obviously not interested. In fact, that anti-romance was my favorite part! Louisa doesn't want to leave her family or go to social function after social function. She basically wants to live in a library and not be bothered!

The final two-thirds are pretty good. There's lots of meddling and misunderstandings and things are finally happening! But by then it was really too late for Season for Temptation. I wasn't as invested in Julia and James as I could have been. It left me feeling rather like Scrooge. Bah hum bug!
