Widowed mommy-blogger Stephanie Ward receives a call from her best friend, Emily Nelson, asking her to pick up Emily's five-year-old son, Nicky, from school. There's an emergency at work, Emily explains, but she'll be by to get Nicky no later than 9 p.m. Nicky is best friends with Stephanie's son, Miles, and the boys attend the same suburban Connecticut kindergarten, so Stephanie agrees. Days pass and Emily never appears, leading Stephanie to fear the worst. read it. haven't watched it. 

i found it underwhelming. not bad i just expected more murder i guess. i think if i hadn't just read through 8 Pretty Little Liar books i would have liked this bettter.

I did like the POV switch between MC and MC blog posts. i liked seeing the split between persona and the face they put on for their blog. Later on it was neat to see how the MC given information and how it influenced the blog.

ultimately not for me. i don't know if i want to watch it after reading it.

I watched the movie before I read the book, and I'm sure that clouded my judgment of the book itself. The two are completely different, and as a result, I liked the movie far more. In my opinion Stephanie's character was so mindless and two-dimensional. I get that she was the "fish" but I was really hoping that things would turn and she'd add a twist or two to the plot. When I was nearing the end, I was really expecting something crazy, but I was disappointed - I finished the book and was just done with it. Nothing in the ending left me rethinking scenes or trying to figure out what key clues I may have missed, like the thrillers that I love actually do.
