This volume, a rewrite of a popular text first produced in Dutch in 1974, covers a much wider variety of issues. These range from the different extension philosophies, the functions of extension agencies, strategies and methods appropriate to rural development in less industrialized countries, through the theories underlying extension processes, to professional ethics for extension workers. This text provides an insight into the functions of extension organizations and although it is directed principally towards agricultural extension education, such as undergraduate and postgraduate agricultural courses at universities and colleges, it also has relevance for extension agents in areas such as health, nutrition, family planning and small business.
