Baby Black Bear has had so much fun with his friends moose, owl, and rabbit, that he's decided not to join his parents in hibernation for the winter. So as the weather begins to turn cold and snow starts to fall, Baby Bear just keeps frolicking, all under the watchful but unseen eye of his dad. After a while, Baby Bear begins to realize that life outside the den is not quite as nice in the winter as he thought, and frozen twigs don't make much of a meal. With the help of his friends he makes it back to shelter to spend a cozy winter with his mom and dad.

My kids cannot get enough of this book! I have read it twice to them already and they have already requested it for bedtime tonight as well. It's not hard to see why either.
For starters the pictures are beautiful. The muted colors are gorgeous and so calming for kids to see at bedtime..
Baby Bear is just like any kid fighting bedtime when he tells his parents that he is NOT hibernating for the winter. He goes to visit his friends owl, moose and hare to find out what they are planning to do in the winter and to inform them as well that he will be seeing them around because he is definitely NOT hibernating. The patience his parents showed him stood out to me. Instead of telling him he most certainly was hibernating they instead allowed him to attempt to not hibernate.
This is a lesson that I think all parents could learn. Allow your children to make little "mistakes" even if you know they are wrong about something. Baby Bear's parents new well and good he was going to be hibernating but instead of ruining his fun they allowed him to play in the snow and try his hand at not hibernating.
It is also really cute how every time Baby Bear had a little mishap Papa Bear was there in the background watching over him to make sure he was safe.
At the very end of the book there are different facts listed about black bears that made it a really fun and also educational book. I liked that because it also meant that if my two older kids want to listen in to the bedtime story they can get something educational out of the story and it also makes it more interesting to them.
