The focus of the sculptural vocabulary of Stella Hamberg (*1975 in Friedberg) is the human being, the same figure that has predominantly stood at the center of sculpture throughout the art history. For Hamberg, working on a sculpture is like being involved in a continuous dialogue. Yet a unique language is spoken in each one of her visual worlds, as becomes apparent in works such as Die Berserker, Der Gefährte, Der Freund, Das Mädchen, and Der Fremde. The strong presence of the figures contradicts the stoic autism in which they are and always will be trapped. “An image is like a mountain, and a mountain doesn’t move,” says the artist. This monograph is the first survey of Stella Hamberg’s current works.
