Recent traffic and weather conditions have challenged the ability of some hot rolled asphalts to resist premature deformation, making it necessary to specify hot rolled asphalt in terms of the required performance, and not by recipe alone. This report covers the development of a performance-related specification for hot rolled asphalt wearing courses and summarises the results of road trials carried out to assess its effectiveness.
