Peter Daniels, a talented pianist, finds happiness working in Paris, where he happens upon the unknown music of a dead man, and uses it to become rich. Marie and Jean-Paul befriend him, help him find work but outside forces pursue them and destroy their relationship. Desperate to put it all behind him he runs away, back to a life with Hannah, his student girlfriend.. But the music acts as a conduit to the past and try as he might, he cannot escape.
