This study is concerned with tourist-historic cities and the problems of reconciliation between the conservation of historical cities and their economic development as tourist facilities. Increasing awareness of the heritage value of cityscapes and the need for their conservation has developed simultaneously with economic expansion of tourism as a major source of income for many North American and European cities. This assessment uses European and American examples to explore current management trends of tourist-historic cities and outlines possible trends and lessons for the future. This book is aimed to be of interest to scholars of geography, urban studies, planning, marketing and business courses, and public administration as well as professional people in the city authorities, development corporations, marketing consultancies, advertising agencies and planning consultancies.
