The trade dimension of services has sometimes been overlooked partially because services are still considered as non-tradable by policymakers or are invisible in trade statistics. Yet, rapid advances in information and communication technologies and the ongoing liberalization of trade and investment in services have increased the tradability of many service activities and created new kinds of tradable services. Many service sector activities are thus becoming increasingly internationalized and location independent. This development has led to the internalization of services activities, with associated changes in trade, cross-border investment, and employment patterns. This volume presents an overview of experiences and approaches for the development of non-traditional services exports. The broad aim is to develop an operational framework to guide analysts and policy makers towards efficient and successful practices, and illustrate this framework with suitable case studies.
