Maud Gonne, W. B. Yeats's muse, and John Quinn, the New York lawyer who was the leading collector of modern art and manuscripts in the early part of the twentieth century, began their correspondence in 1906. Their extant letters, written until 1921, are filled with concern about the Ireland they both loved and about their friends -- Joyce, Pound, Stephens, Moore, A.E. -- but particularly Yeats. These significant letters allow the reader access to one of the most exciting times in Irish history and literature.
