'The Life of Mahomet' is a facsimile of a rare first edition published in England in 1731 in translation from the original by Boulainvilliers. Henri de Boulainvilliers, Comte de Saint-Saire (1658-1722), a major French historian of the period, completed two volumes of 'La Vie de Mahomet' before his death. The English edition contained a third volume completeing the biography. The original publication of this work was significant in that it was the first major biographical study of the founder of Islam and the Arab Empire to show the prophet in the true light of his work and character. Few great men have been so maligned as Mahomet. Christian scholars of medieval Europe painted him as an imposter. Boulainvillier's 'Life' revealed to Western eyes the true character of the prophet: faith, courage, resoluteness, generosity and gentleness. No less today will this fine edition be welcomed by all those seeking to discover more of the origins of one of the world's greatest religions.
