An alternative reading of the development of modern architecture from a practical and green standpoint. It emphasizes the changing attitudes towards nature and the emergence of green thinking. This second edition has been expanded and updated, with new material on Lethaby and Aalto. There is also a new chapter on Sweden entitled "Sun, Sky and Trees", suggested by Farmer's own notes. The last chapter has been expanded, together with chapter 20 "Green Trials". These look at the variety of green directions being pursued at present. They also discuss the advantages and disadvantages of the options available, as well as what green architecture looks and feels like to live in compared to the modern and other buildings of the present and past.
