This publication in two self-contained volumes is the culmination of several years research and development. Volume 1 brings together an appraisal of the principles of planting design and includes practical advice on plant selection and planting techniques. Sections cover the subject from the broad appraisal of land, conditions for growth, alternative approaches to planting design, simple description of physiological requirements, through to detailed examination of design with trees, shrubs, ground cover, climbers, hedges, grasses and herbaceous plants.
