The last decades of the nineteenth century and the early twentieth century in Germany produced some of the most beautiful and inventive tin toys ever, leading rightly to the designation of a Golden Age. In the second half of the nineteenth century, there were many small toy manufacturers located in France and Germany who produced and distributed toys of the highest quality. However, catalogues of their products were few and far between, so that, for example, the discovery of a complete Rock & Graner sales catalogue from around 1875 was a small sensation in the world of tin toy trains. But of other German manufacturers such as Buchner of Issmayer, little has come to light until today. However, Paul Klein Schiphorst's stunning collection is not only comprehensive, but attributes even the early toys to their manufacturers. The book is based on five years' research and includes some of the foremost collections in the world.
