Henry Percy was the Hotspur of Shakespeare's Richard II, and of Henry IV Part I in which he is killed by the King at the Battle of Shrewsbury. Fleur Adcock's ballad tells the story of the Northumbrian hero – as viewed by his wife, Elizabeth Mortimer. Written for music by Gillian Whitehead, the book is illustrated with monoprints by the acclaimed New Zealand artist Gretchen Albrecht.
