The New Kadampa Tradition is a Mahayana Buddhist tradition that practises the pure Buddhadharma transmitted to the Tibetan scholar and meditation Master Je Tsongkhapa by the Wisdom Buddha Manjushri. Followers of this tradition combine extensive study of Buddha's Sutras and Tantras with sincere practice and meditation. In this way they strive to take Buddha's teachings to heart and put them into practice for the benefit of all living beings. This book presents two essential practices of this tradition. The first is a profound method for relying upon a Spiritual Guide, or Guru. By practising this Guru yoga, followers can purify negativity, accumulate merit and receive profound blessings. With these as a foundation, followers will accomplish all the realizations of the spiritual paths of Sutra and Tantra and, in particular, attain a special Dharma wisdom. The second practice is a method for relying upon a powerful Dharma Protector. Through this practice followers can overcome obstacles to spiritual practice and create favourable conditions for nurturing and increasing pure Dharma realizations.
