The Blackburn Skua was the fighter/dive-bomber used by the British Fleet Air Arm in the early years of World War II. All but forgotten now, the Skua was flown in combat over Norway, the beaches of Dunkirk and in the Mediterranean. The Skua gained the distinction of being the first naval aircraft to shoot down a German plane in World War II and the first aircraft to sink a major warship in wartime. The Roc was a later development of the Skua, designed to protect the fleet and naval bases from predatory enemy aircraft and for escort duties.
