Initial thoughts: I liked the beginning chapters but half-way through I started losing interest until I didn't care much about the resolution anymore. It didn't help how the subject of rape was treated. Could've been a powerful story, dealing with the complexities of the circumstances. Instead, it seemed like for the most part, the fault was explained away. Pity — the premise sounded really intriguing. Plus, I really enjoyed her book, The Gods of Alabama. Perhaps knowing what the author is capable of led me to expected more plot twists and to feel more invested in the developments of the characters' lives.
The audio narration was good, though. It's to the narrator's advantage that she also was the author as she managed to beautifully bring out the emotions of her characters.
