The prevailing wisdom is that you're genetically born as one gender, that's who you are and that's the identity you should develop to fit into your culture, either a manly man or a feminine women but somewhere along the way, there are people who don't fit neatly into the gender they look like and often want to be the opposite gender. Fifty years ago or so, society had strict gender roles. Women became mothers while men went to work. It was overwhelming because everybody played by these rules. Guys were expected to like hunting and sports even if they had no interest in these things. Most guys allowed themselves to get brainwashed and played along with the cultural stereotype but somewhere along the way, some guys said to themselves I don't feel like this, I don't like this stuff, I'm a man, doing my own thing doesn't make me less of a man, I can be who I am, live out my so-called feminine qualities and I don't give a damn what they say.
