Papers based on the 7th conference of the International Network of Museums for Peace, (INMP) Barcelona, 2011: "The Role of Museums in the Transformation of a Culture of War and Violence to a Culture of Peace and Nonviolence". Chapters are divided into six sections: Museums without Walls, addressing ways of creating museums in the open air in Africa to virtual museum opportunities; Peace Education, including engagement with young people; Remembrance, and how memories of violence can inspire action towards a more peaceful future; Exchanges, where people and artwork transcend cultural and geographical boundaries; Images, with reflection upon posters, photographs and other media; and Revisioning Peace Museums, contemplating peace museums for the future. These illustrated papers represent the voices and interests of peace museum founders and workers, with academics, artists, and activists. They intersect and overlap to create a volume filled with insights, guidelines and visions of cultures of peace.
