This book contains a chronology of the most significant events in the history of science from the earliest verifiable scientific achievement up to recent breakthroughs of the 1980s. The timetable format provides instant access to key events in the scientific disciplines year by year. The column headings expand throughout the book as the number of scientific disciplines grows historically. The book begins with headings for astronomy, life sciences, mathematics and technology, and then gradually adds physical science, anthropology and archaeology, and space. Throughout the book the left-hand column lists important events in world history, thus serving as a general reference. In addition to the chronology of scientific history, "The Timetables of Science" contains more than 100 essays on notable topics in the history of science, such as "The First Known Date", "Does the Ether Exist?" and "God is Left-Handed". Alexander Hellemans has published numerous articles on scientific subjects as well as working on several encyclopedias. Bryan Bunch runs Scientific Publishing Inc. and he is the author of "The Scientific Almanac".
