Hi-tech industries that focus on developing patterns of innovation as part of their management strategies can increase their competitiveness. However, this synergy between knowledge and experience and its resulting creativity can make them targets for takeover bids. This though destroys the continuity that is often an important factor in successful innovation processes and as they become integrated into larger and larger conglomerates, they lose the advantages which made them attractive in the first place. Analyzing innovation within different corporate frames, this volume assesses the performance of international component manufacturers. He argues that companies must take a longer-term view when considering takeover of innovative firms for their own benefit as well as that of the company they seek to aquire. Using extensive case evidence, the author shows how survival and sustainability is best achieved.
