A five-level French course written since the publication of the Final Report of the Modern Languages Committee. It has been developed by a team of experienced, practising teachers in association with the Language Teaching Centre at York University. It teaches French in a communicative way. It is completely in line with the National Curriculum proposals for Key Stages 3 and 4. The Profile Components and Attainment Targets are fully integrated into a thorough and imaginative course for the whole ability range. It provides a comprehensive bank of materials which allows for "different levels of understanding and types of participation". It encourages independent learning and it helps students to develop study skills and to take responsability for planning their own foreign language learning. Throughout "Auto" students are presented with a range of activities which provide the opportunities to develop the competences and strategies outlined in the Final Report and Consultation Document. Opportunities for the use of Information Technology are highlighted throughout the course.
The Key Stage 3 materials are complemented by the two "Strategies" videos which adopt a similar approach and methodology. For each year there is a Students' Book, a Teacher's Resourse Book, Copymasters, Flashcards and a set of Audio Cassettes. The topics in each book cover the seven National Curriculum areas of experience. They have been chosen to appeal to young people and embrace the National Curriculum Themes. The Evaluation Pack contains a students' book, a teacher's resource book, free sample copymasters, flashcards, and audio cassette, and a free "Collins French Pocket Dictionary".
