In 1996 the contemporary-art collector Janet de Botton donated to the Tate Gallery 60 works from her collection, and this book reproduces and documents each of them. The gift includes paintings, sculptures and photographs by 30 artists, and covers three decades, from 1962 to 1991. They range from pieces such as Carl Andre's "Steel Zinc Plain" (1969) and one of Andy Warhol's final self-portraits (1986) to a group of "Untitled Film Stills" (1978-80) by Cindy Sherman and "Incubus" (1991), an early painting by the British artist Gary Hume. Other artists whose work is represented in the gift are Richard Artschwager, Stephen Buckley, Patrick Caulfield, Francesco Clemente, Grenville Davey, Guenther Foerg, Gilbert and George, Roni Horn, Donald Judd, Sol Lewitt, Richard Long, Robert Longo, Tatsuo Miyajima, Reinhard Mucha, Avis Newman, Robert Ryman, David Salle, Lucas Samaras, Julian Schnabel, Sean Scully, Joel Shapiro, Nancy Spero, Frank Stella, Richard Wentworth and Bill Woodrow. Interviews with nine of the artists are included.
