The husband and wife team of Henry Fawcett (1833-84) and Millicent Garrett Fawcett (1847-1929) was not unlike that of their master John Stuart Mill and his platonic love, (and later wife) Harriet Taylor. Besides being among the leading feminists of their time, the two women provided both intellectual stimulation and feminine perception of the highest degree to their partners. Fawcett publicly acknowledged his indebtedness to his wife, and eagerly collaborated in serious books, at a time when a woman's reading on economics was typically confined to Jane Marcet and Harriet Martineau. This eight-volume boxed set includes works by Henry Fawcett: "A Manual of Political Economy" (1863), "The Economic Position of the British Labourer" (1865), "Pauperism: its Causes and Remedies" (1871), and "Free Trade and Protection" (1878). It also features four works by Millicent Garrett Fawcett: "Political Economy for Beginners" (1870), "Essays and Lectures" (1872), "Tales in Political Economy" (1874), and "What I Remember" (1924).
