It is the early nineteenth century and Josiah is a poacher, travelling the lamd. His caravan is his home and that of his daughter Kate. But Kate isn't his real daughter. He found her - a pretty abandoned three year old - on the Lancashire moors. Fifteen years later, circumstances force Kate and Josiah to stop travelling, a situation Kate accepts with the same stoicism she has accepted everything else about their life.
