Riley has accepted that her special gift is to help dead people with their unfinished business.  But she never thought she’d be tasked with helping the spirit of a convicted criminal who died in prison.  He may lead her on the scariest mission yet, but helping him could mean saving the life of a child.  The convict’s daughter needs a liver transplant and the one person who could still be a match is his brother…who also happens to be a gang leader.

But dealing with other people’s problems still can’t keep Riley from her own.  Her dad’s drinking has gotten worse.  And she’ll soon learn it’s because he’s been keeping a huge, horrible secret that will change everything she believes about her family and her mother’s death.

Two Feet Under picks up where we left off in the first book. I love Riley and her ability to see ghost and also how the story doesn’t shy away from serious issues.

Riley still sees ghost and is still trying to deal with this fact. I think in this book though she really starts to see the benefit of what helping the ghost can do. She’s becoming more comfortable with what she is able to do, and wants to help people. She continues to struggle with being able to tell anyone about her abilities though. Some people suspect, some people figure it out and some she has to reveal herself in order to help someone else. She has so many things on her plate that she needs to work through. I feel like you really see her grow as a character in this story and that is something I always enjoy.

Hayden is still Hayden but I had mixed feelings about him in this book. I had figured out his situation in the first story early on but now that Riley knows about it. I wanted him to wake up but she is also dealing with him in a different capacity. So she can’t really be angry when people are upset over the possibility of him not waking up. He’s very much alive and well to her so I think it’s hard for her to understand why anyone would give up.

I love the plot of Riley talking to ghost and helping them. It reminds me of shows like touched by an angel and things like that. Each book takes on a short story, while having the main story run along parallel. There are also some heavy issues dealt with in the book as well. Like Riley’s dad’s alcoholism and realizing there is so much she doesn’t know about her mom. It’s interesting to see her explore those issues. As well as her friend Kelsey’s issues as well.

I really liked the ending. I think it was perfect. I kind of expected one part of it but I did not expect the other part. It will be interesting to see where her ghost encounters bring her in the future. As well as dealing with her own emotional loses. Book 3 is going to be a doozy for sure.
