I had no idea this story would take that turn. Wow! And, though that twist was quite shocking, it was just one of many things I enjoyed as I read this book. Birdie came across as so authentic. She had adhered to her parent's rules, but she was growing itchy. She wanted to "see how the other half lived", and unfortunately, she often found herself in trouble. Chances taken, lessons learned. Throughout the story was this thread of forgiveness and second chances, which I could not help grabbing onto. Some of those situations were tough, and it takes a big person to be able to forgive some of those transgressions. Colbert incorporated many relevant topics into this story, and it was done in quite an organic way. Never forced or heavy handed, all these elements worked well together.
I was quite taken by Birdie and this book, which I inhaled, and look forward to reading more from Brandy Colbert.
