The Audi Quattro is possibly the ultimate practical supercar. It offers breathtaking performance from its 200+ bhp turbocharged engine, along with unparalled grip and security of four-wheel drive. The fact that it was always handbuilt on a seperate production line makes it unique among affordable performance cars. Its mystique has been considerably enhanced by the profound effect it has had on the World Rally Championship. Production of the Quattro as a road car ceased in 1991, but the four-wheel drive principle has been carried across Audi's whole range. This book includes the history, development and competition heritage as well as information on buying, running, owning and tuning a Quattro. It covers how the car was first concieved in 1977 and the effect it had when first displayed at the Geneva Motor Show in 1980, and includes details of where and when it rallied, with results lists and drivers' details. It addition, it has a full description of road cars with specifications, production numbers, and what changed when.
