Zaha Hadid (b.1950, Baghdad) has won acclaim for her revolutionary approach to architecture. Her drafts and completed structures contain a furious energy of shifting forms and surfaces which brings to mind the Russian avant-garde of the 1920s, though she displays a daringness which is all her own. As an iconoclast whose work defies both classical and modern architectural precepts, she has won acclaim for the inherent dynamic of motion which occupies her projects. The recipient of numerous prizes in architecture, Zaha Hadid has held professorships in both Europe and America, including the Architectural Association School, London, and Columbia University, New York. She has lectured widely, and currently works in both New York and Vienna.
