Focuses on the private and professional lives of gay male escorts and masseurs. The study is based on in-depth interviews with 51 men currently working as escorts and masseurs. It features a number of experiences gathered from gay sex workers from a variety of social backgrounds. The interviewees range in age from 18 to low fifties; some are students working their way through university; others are waiters, office workers, or teachers supplementing their incomes; many others are engaged in sex-work on a full-time basis. Some are from upper-class backgrounds, while many more are middle class in origin. This book looks at sex work as work. The lives and experiences of the interviewees are interpreted from a sociological/social psychological perspective which places direct emphasis on their own voices.
