Note: I am not an extreme athlete, or an athlete, or extreme, but I still love watching and reading about it.
Our heroine was Willow's best friend, Dr. Callie, who was still licking her wounds from the break-up with her boyfriend (2 years ago). Since the break-up, Callie doubted herself in many aspects of her life, and was hesitant to take any risks. Callie struggled a lot with taking a chance on romance with Hank. It was even sometimes hard to read about, and my heart ached for this wonderful woman, who harbored so much doubt, and constantly deprived herself of any happiness.
Our hero was Hank, a former Olympic snowboarder, who's entire world was turned upside down due to a tragic accident. Hank's entire life revolved around his body and what it could do. He was lost and bitter, and not sure what his world was any longer. My heart broke for Hank so many times. Bowen did such a good job conveying his fears, doubt, and disappointments. I appreciate that she always shows us the good, the bad, and the ugly side of things in her books. Experiencing Hank's pain, successes, and failures was part of getting to know and understand him.
We also reunited with Willow, Dane, and family (and it felt so good). One thing I love about companion novels, is that I can read them as stand alones, or I can read them and catch up with old friends. I loved seeing where Willow and Dane were after their story ended. Willow and Callie had such a fun friendship, and the banter made me giggle.
This was a beautiful love story filled with hearts, flowers, and hope. I was treated to the harsh reality of life, but also the brighter side of what could be, and all this was done with a fabulous cast of characters, and some epic backgrounds.
