I did find certain aspects of this book to be easily predictable, and certain scenes went faster than I'd expected (not the sexy ones, if that concerns you), but... that didn't stop this book from being good.
And really, let's be honest. When you read a historical romance for the romance, the predictability of the suspense/mystery plot isn't allllll that bad. And the romance was good. A wee bit too much internal "Woe woe, he won't ever love me because I'm nothing," but never enough to turn me off completely.
Always a plus, that.
I loved that the Julien saw Sarah as beautiful (with her brown hair, brown eyes) from the very start. It was much better than listening to how Sarah described herself as plain. Barf. Julien knows what's what.
Brown hair and brown eyes are sexy. He knew it. We know it. Sarah figures it out eventually.
Did also like the set up for the next book, and kudos to me for actually grabbing the first in the series. Though I definitely need to get my hands on the next.
