Tall, broad-shouldered and square-jawed he was the Kirk Douglas of the evangelical movement. Critics have attacked him for an emotional simplicity of interpretation and of a mass-production approach to gaining converts. He fawned to Eisenhower, was branded "Nixon's Pope" and has managed to tailor his religious right wing views to successive presidents. But no financial or sexual scandals are attached to Graham.
