Prick, by me, J.R., was my first book-- writing realistically 2 weeks at a time, in each season, whatever was in front of me.
The Somnambulist, originally Goldfish, is the sequel, about as long-- I was in exactly the same situation, except I had graduated-- this was an attempt to find the poetry in my life-- the entire book is really about the trip from my apartment in Boston to work-- and back-- over and over-- while taking a "walking notebook" with me, sometimes writing observations while walking-- adding words gleaned from billboards and commercial advertisements, overheard thought bubbles, explicating daydreams, recording dreams dreamt in the morning, and diving into the poetry and prose, or dabbling, of the French surrealists like Andre Breton and Guillaume Apollinaire--
Like a prose poem, not meant to make literal sense-- the tedium and normality of my dull, loner, retail life needed some nonsense--
I only name myself-- everybody else has improbable names, whether I knew them or not.
