Forgotten by Catherine McKenzie is a nice read, not to heavy on the drama but pretty good on the romance. Lawyer Emma makes a trip to Africa that her recently deceased mother always wanted to go on and left to Emma in her will. Emma becomes very ill on her trip, is left by her tour group to be cared for by a group building a school, and is almost well when a devastating earthquake hits the country. Cut off from the outside world for almost 6 months, Emma's friends and co-workers assume that she has died and life carries on without her.
Emma eventually is able to leave Africa (although oddly enough she is able to use her passport and open ended airline ticket without ever being tagged as "missing" as if no one ever noticed she had disappeared). On returning to her home in New York she finds a handsome photographer living in her house and a work rival in her office and with her boyfriend.
The rest of the book follows on its predictable course with a mystery major art theft thrown in for good measure.
Despite being somewhat predictable this book was an enjoyable read. I only wish there was more included in the book on what had happened to Emma while she was in Africa.
