Fast forward five years and we discover that the stranger is none other than Agent Draven Stone and he is part of a Shadow Unit team charged with guarding Jes and her five year old daughter from her psychotic ex-husband. Draven's wolf is still drawn to Jes and wants to claim her as his own, regardless of what his pack might want.
Draven and Jes have a lot of baggage they need to sort through, which includes the daughter Draven didn't realize he had and the abuse Jes suffered at the hands of her ex. Then there are the attempts from Jes' ex to get rid of her and take her daughter for his experiments. Neither Jes, Draven or even the Shadow Unit team do a really great job of sifting through this mess to ensure both Jes and her daughter are safe.
I'm still torn about this book. There were times when I didn't like any of the characters and then a time or two where I couldn't stand Draven and wondered why Jes even bothered (when he marked her practically sent me over the edge). However, the storyline to the book had me engaged, even if the characters didn't (and why I will read the next book in the series).
