The contributors to this book chronicle the remarkable changes of the last decade in the balance of power in industrial relations in most European countries. They provide a co-ordinated trans-national analysis of the current state of industrial relations across Europe. A widespread shift to the right, high unemployment and the changes to the structure of the labour force and resultant new emphasis on flexibility in the deployment of labour are examined. The book considers how far these changes have altered the patterns of industrial relations. It looks for recurring patterns in Western European countries, and asks whether or not the unions have developed any counter-strengths. The material contained in this volume relates to sociology, politics, management and industrial relations.
