It's 30 years since the "Sex Pistols" released "Anarchy in the UK", John Lydon will be 51 in January and Punk is now middle aged, as is Vernon, a sort of cross between Johnny Rotten and Victor Meldrew. You see men like Vernon everywhere these days; the guys that spent 2 years on the barricades but the next 20 in Homebase. Since Punk he's tried to live his life by the simple three chord philosophy of Punk in a world that's much too complicated. He thinks he was at the vanguard of the people who invented modern youth culture. He's really pissed off his kids aren't in the least bit grateful. After a nasty divorce Vernon moves into his kids student flat. He's genuinely excited about his chance to be young again. His kids are bloody mortified. A rebel in his youth, Vernon is now an ageing Punk Dad. He's spent the last two decades living off his high-flying wife. Now he's back in the 'real' world: free, no ties, no responsibilities. OK, he's unemployable, impoverished and alone, but that's only the downside. At least now he can rekindle the embers of his glorious youth and be as hedonistic, as irresponsible and as selfish and idle as his kids.
