Cocktails and Books received this book for free from Inkslinger PR in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect our opinion of the book or the content of our review.Aly Martinez manages to write gritty, angsty stories that pull you in. Whether you like the main characters or not, the story itself pushes readers (at least in my opinion) to keep moving forward with the story. THE TRUTH ABOUT LIES was one of those stories. At different points and times I found myself questioning Cora and/or Penn. They would say something or do something that left me scratching my head. But as the story went on and we got further into how Cora and Penn really ended up connected, I couldn't wait to find out what was going to happen next.
There will be some triggers for some readers with this book. Cora's life is not easy and being connected to a mob-like family brings certain hard truths. But there was a strength to Cora that had me forgiving her sins and hoping she could find her sense of self and a new normal. Add in the mix of the somewhat broken Penn and you want to see how these two manage to find a HEA.
I'm looking forward to the conclusion of this duet. I have a feeling finding that HEA isn't going to come easy for them.
