Beat Streuli's photographs of urban street scenes offer snapshots of everyday life. The protagonists of the pictures are usually ignorant of being photographed and are caught in moments in which they seem withdrawn with no sense of the effect they have on their surroundings, appearing unconnected even with their fellow neighbours. Streuli lifts the individual out of his or her relative obscurity by focusing attention on them by presenting the subjects as large format slides or as projections on exhibition walls. This book of photographs, published in a limited edition and hand-signed by the artist, presents a selection of Beat Streuli's recent New York works.
