Set in Oxford, Faith Appleyard is found wandering along the roadside by a taxi driver after being kidnapped and looking in a terrible state. She refuses to see a doctor or go to the police so he takes her home and then phones the police himself.
Why does she not want to go to the police, what is she hiding?
DI Adam Fawley then takes the investigation visits Miss Appleyard who brushes it off as an April Fools prank that got out of hand, while her mother and others that are questioned are equally dismissive.
Another girl has gone missing, will this one come home, Adam must work fast if there is any chance of it.
This is the first book in the DI Adam Fawley series I have read and it was thoroughly gripping. It was disturbing, suspenseful and had me work through a multitude of emotions.
What I liked about this book is that it highlights the difficulties a transgender person has when trying to live their life and how horrible some small-minded people can be due to it. Having seen this prejudice by people in real life who don’t understand or do not want to understand this book is a good eye-opener for those that haven’t experienced it from either side. But there is so much more to the story than that. It was captivating.
