This book is part of a series designed to encourage children to discover more about the fascinating world of nature. The informative text and colour photographs have been commissoned from experts. It explains how centipedes and millipedes are made up, how and what they eat, how they reproduce, who their enemies are and how to learn more about them. Although the centipedes and millipedes may look, at first glance, quite similar, they are not part of the same class of animals. The book begins by describing how the centipede's and millipede's bodies differ from each other, and although they both have lots of legs, they walk quite differently. There are chapters on how and what they eat - and how they care for their young. In the last two chapters the author describes how they defend themselves against their enemies. Some millipedes will try and run away from an enemy, but, others curl up into a ball or ooze a foul-smelling liquid. He also explains where to look for millipedes and centipedes and how to keep them. Ken Preston-Mafham also wrote "Spiders of the World" and "Butterflies of the World".
